The first official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has been released online, in the run-up to the next outing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The brief 90-second trailer shows Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America riding along a rural road on a motorbike, entering a house and picking up his superhero uniform, then holding a sleeping baby. A title then announces: “Steve Rogers Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”

Joe and Anthony Russo, the film’s directors, accompanied the trailer release with an Instagram post saying: “The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this…”

Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth film in Marvel’s Avengers series (and the 39th overall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), and will feature Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, its chief antagonist. It is due to also include a huge number of established Marvel figures, introduced in March with a lengthy “cast reveal”, with the original X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the entire cast of Thunderbolts*.

Trailers for the film had originally been planned to play exclusively in cinemas in front of presentations of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but confusion set in after fans reported disappointment at the random programming, as well as online leaks, so the studio has gone ahead with an online release.

Avengers: Doomsday is due for release on 17 December 2026 in Australia and 18 December 2026 in the UK and US.
