Freeman’s walk-off homer lifts Dodgers over Blue Jays in 18-inning World Series epic

12 hours ago 4

Freddie Freeman launched a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 18th inning, lifting the Dodgers to a 6-5 win over the Blue Jays in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night. The 6hr 39min epic tied the longest game in Fall Classic history by innings and put Los Angeles ahead 2-1 in the best-of-seven tilt.

Shohei Ohtani supplied most of the drama before Freeman finished the job. The Dodgers’ two-way superstar homered twice, doubled twice and reached base a playoff-record nine times, becoming the first player in 83 years to do so in any MLB game. Toronto intentionally walked him four times, and still never fully escaped him.

The game swung back and forth constantly. LA grabbed a quick lead on early homers from Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández, only for Alejandro Kirk’s three-run shot to flip it in the fourth. Toronto briefly regained control in the seventh on Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s aggressive dash home.

Each time, Ohtani dragged the Dodgers back. His opposite-field RBI double in the fifth tied it at 4-4, and his second homer – a 401-foot blast to left-center – pulled LA even again in the seventh. It was his sixth home run in four games and yet another reminder of why the Blue Jays kept refusing to pitch to him.

The extra innings turned into a highlight reel. Baserunners were cut down at home, managers burned through benches and bullpens, while every loud fly ball drew 50,000 fans to their feet.

Finally, after rookie Will Klein delivered four scoreless innings to stabilize the Dodgers, Freeman delivered the coup de grâce. He worked a full count against lefty Brendon Little and hammered a sinker over the wall in deep center. He paused for a moment, then eased into his trot as teammates poured from the dugout.

The celebration won’t last long. Game 4 arrives Tuesday night, with Ohtani taking the mound for the first World Series start of his career.
